I have always loved doing research. With information so available to everyone, whether its through technology or media outlets, its always interesting learning new things. A fun example is the idiom: “Curiosity killed the cat”. This sentence is often used to warn people about the dangers of being overly curious and cautious about what you may do. But that’s not the full idiom. The full quote is “Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.” So really it means to be careful when curious but also be welcoming of it, you never know the good that may come from it.

Researching and Asking

Its doing this research that I learn about the world. To me, doing my own research allows me to have an open and honest perspective about something new. It also feels rewarding, since researching allows me to sit down and properly digest what I am interested in or what to know. Whether its something new or old, the knowledge can always benefit me. And there are so many means of doing research. Most of the time I use search engine like Google or Safari to help find what I am looking for, or I learn through my friends to get more opinions. Both ways provide excellent forms of learning and I think everyone could do more research or ask others for information.

The Joys of Mass Media

I also like learning through mass media as well. Whether it’s through social media, films, games, books, or news outlets, all of them provide different ways of learning. For example, I find that I love learning lessons through books and films, but I also like learning through social media since I could be talking to someone in a whole other country, a place I may never see! There always information my friends or I won’t know, so mass media always me gain new perspectives about the world. It’s crazy just how much knowledge is out there in the world.

Having an Open Mind

However, researching and viewing mass media also comes with having an open mind. I think it’s important to be open-minded, especially when you have little to no knowledge of a topic. The world is massive. People have so many different views and lives. I believe that every perspective is critical because without having new opinions, the world feels small. Having all of these multiple cultures and information everywhere, it’s cool to see how we have existed throughout everything.

As a senior college student currently studying interactive media, its important to acknowledge how people learn about the world. There is so much information out there, and with technology on the rise, I think there is much to learn from these experiences. I love doing research, and I hope I can continue to learn new things throughout my year and my upcoming classes in this last semester of college.
